Urbanization in India grew by leaps and bounds during the last decade. Several studies indicate that Indian cities may contribute up to 70% of the country’s GDP by 2030. These urban centers, if not planned and managed carefully, can lead to inefficiencies, congestion, and resource conflict. Some services like water, sanitation, sewerage, and transportation have already become impediments to urban growth.
According to High Powered Expert Committee (HPEC), India will require an investment of approximately ₹39.2 lakh crore until 2030 for adequate urban infrastructure. Of this, 44% has been allocated for roads, 20% for water, sewerage, solid waste management, storm water drains and streetlights.

WickedRide Adventure Services, the parent company of Bounce, started as India’s first luxury bike rental service. Formerly called Metro, Bike, it was their intra-city bike rental brand, to enable local commuting as well as provide first and last mile connectivity. Starting with 100 bikes in September 2018, Bounce has grown to over 7,000 bikes by July 2019.
Bounce offers a keyless, dockless, shared mobility solution with a mission of making daily commutes stress-free, reliable and convenient. It operates with a fleet of 19,000 scooters and has presence in over 35 cities in the country. The state-of-the-art patented keyless bikes mean renting a bike doesn’t even require human intervention.

Sukriti is a not-for-profit company, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, working towards social and economic upliftment of the country through sustainable engineering initiatives and innovations. They are a group of graduates from IIT Roorkee that have developed a smart public toilet, Eco-Mitra.
The Eco-Mitra is automated for self-cleaning and self-maintenance, as well as deciding when to flush and clean the floor with water. The automation uses no physical sensors that can be broken, damaged, or stolen, making it a robust system that can withstand rough public usage. It also works completely on solar power.
Taraltec Solutions Private Limited

Taraltec is working on providing clean drinking water to all, especially in rural areas. Their product, the Taraltec Reactor, can be retrofitted to borewell hand pumps to provide safe water for those who continue to use the water source due to a lack of other options.
The Taraltec Reactor requires no consumables, no electricity, no chemicals, and no maintenance or supervision. With a one-time fitting, it can ensure a 99% microbial decontamination to eliminate waterborne diseases like diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, etc. It’s also no different to use than a regular borewell.
The Taraltec Reactor has already impacted the lives of close to half a million people all over India by giving them access to safe water.
Taraltec was named winner of the India Innovation Growth Program 2.0, organized by the Department of Science and Technology.
