As the founder and director of Palasah Manufacturers and Traders Pvt. Ltd., I'm on a mission to tackle the pressing issue of menstrual hygiene head-on. Our journey began with a crucial realization of the alarming environmental toll of plastic sanitary products and the widespread lack of access to affordable, hygienic options for women across the nation. Equipped with a B.Com. degree in e-commerce and enriched by the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10000 Women Entrepreneurs program, I've developed valuable skills in financial management, strategic planning, and business development. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, I spent 11 years as a homemaker, driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to society and the environment. Recognizing the urgent need for change, we embarked on a mission to manufacture biodegradable sanitary napkins, with a vision to not only address the menstrual hygiene crisis but also combat the growing plastic landfill menace.
Problem:
Affordability: Many women and girls, especially in low-income regions, cannot afford sanitary napkins due to their high cost.
Lack of Awareness: Cultural taboos and myths further perpetuate ignorance, making it difficult for women and girls to access and use sanitary products.
Limited Access: Remote and rural areas often have limited or no access to sanitary products due to the absence of distribution networks.
Plastic Content: Most commercial sanitary napkins contain non-biodegradable plastics and synthetic materials.
Chemical Additives: Sanitary napkins often contain harmful chemicals like dioxins and superabsorbent polymers, which can leach into the soil and water, causing ecological harm.
Solutions and innovations
1. Affordable Sanitary Products: Promoting the production and distribution of low-cost sanitary napkins can improve accessibility. Initiatives to subsidize these products or provide them free of charge in schools and communities can make a significant difference.
2. Menstrual Education: Comprehensive education programs about menstrual hygiene management can help break the stigma and encourage the use of safe sanitary products.
3. Improved Waste Management: Developing and implementing effective waste management systems, including the provision of sanitary napkin incinerators, can help in the safe disposal of menstrual waste, reducing environmental pollution.
We offer the following:
Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines: Revolutionizing accessibility to hygiene products, our vending machines offer a convenient and discreet way for women to access sanitary napkins in various locations.
Burning Machines: Our burning machines provide efficient and eco-friendly disposal solutions for used sanitary napkins.
Low-Cost Sanitary Napkin Manufacturing Machinery: We offer cost-effective machinery to produce sanitary napkins.
Bio-Degradable Sanitary Napkin Raw Materials: In alignment with global efforts to reduce plastic waste, we produce bio-degradable raw materials for sanitary napkins.
We are contributing towards creating the below mentioned impact to the ecosystem:
1. Enhanced Menstrual Hygiene Access to Sanitary Products: This initiative ensures that women and girls in rural areas can manage their menstrual health with dignity and safety. Alongside product distribution, we conduct menstrual hygiene education programs, dispelling myths and taboos associated with menstruation.
2. Improved health outcomes Reduced Health Risks: The availability of sanitary napkins has led to a reduction in health issues such as urinary tract infections (UTIs) and reproductive tract infections (RTIs), which are often caused using unsafe and unhygienic alternatives.
3. Preventive Healthcare: Our educational initiatives help women understand the importance of regular menstrual hygiene and preventive healthcare, leading to improved overall health outcomes in rural communities.
4. Educational Advancement School Attendance: With the installation of sanitary napkin vending machines in schools, girls are less likely to miss classes during their menstrual periods, leading to better school attendance and educational attainment.
5. Reduced Dropout Rates: By addrsessing the issue of menstrual hygiene, we help reduce the dropout rates among schoolgirls, ensuring they continue their education and improve their prospects.
6. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Our initiatives align with several SDGs, including good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, and clean water and sanitation.
