Startup India is a flagship initiative of the Government of India under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), launched on 16 January 2016 with the vision of building a strong and inclusive startup ecosystem across the country. Over the past decade, the initiative has introduced key programmes and policy measures to support entrepreneurs, encourage innovation, and enable startups to grow and scale.
As Startup India completes 10 years, National Startup Day 2026 marks an important milestone in India’s entrepreneurial journey. The occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made over the last decade, recognise the contributions of startups in driving economic growth and job creation, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to nurturing innovation-led development. National Startup Day stands as a celebration of India’s startup ecosystem and its role in shaping a future-ready, self-reliant nation aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
To commemorate National Startup Day 2026 and mark 10 years of the Startup India Initiative, the celebrations this year will focus on the following:
Highlighting the key milestones achieved over the last ten years, including the growth of India’s startup ecosystem, expansion across sectors and geographies, job creation, and the role of startups in driving innovation and economic development.
Setting the direction for the next phase of Startup India, with emphasis on emerging technologies, deep tech, sustainability, global market access, and continued policy support to enable startups to scale and compete globally.
Bringing together startups, investors, incubators, corporates, academic institutions, and policymakers to strengthen partnerships and collectively shape the future of India’s innovation-led growth.
January 16, designated as National Startup Day by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, stands as a national recognition of India’s entrepreneurial spirit. As Startup India enters its second decade, National Startup Day 2026 is not only a moment to celebrate past achievements, but also a call to action to build a more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready startup ecosystem. The journey of the last ten years reflects India’s growing strength as a global innovation hub, with the next phase aimed at deeper impact, wider participation, and sustained global leadership.

Over the past few years, the Indian Startup Ecosystem has witnessed a remarkable growth with significant developments on multiple fronts. Treading on the path leading to a consistently evolving startup ecosystem, India achieved a landmark feat in June 2023, with more than 1,00,000 startups being recognised by Startup India, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Ever since the launch of the Startup India Initiative in January 2016 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Indian startup ecosystem has had an inspiring journey. The States' Startup Ranking is a periodic capacity building exercise created and released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to evaluate all of India's States and Union Territories (UT) on their efforts to build an ecosystem conducive to startup growth.

We are so honoured to receive the National Startup Award 2020 for the best campus initiative startups of India. The National Startup Award 2020 has increased the acceptance of Gen Robotics to fourfold ever since. This award has landed Gen Robotics in some of the important international events where we got to represent India in Europe's largest startup and tech event held in Paris. We are 2021. The Japan pitching session 2021 and on the program, Startup champions from DD National Television, which discusses about the life-changing technologies offered by the award-winning Startups of India. The recognition we receive after knowing that we are an award-winning startup has given us so much leverage to introduce Bandicoot robot for the welfare and well-being of the society we live in. We are so humbled and we are so grateful to the jury for selecting G robotics, the inventors of Bandicoot robot, the world's first robotics scavenger, which brought forth a revolutionary change in the lives of the sanitation workers of our country. In fact, we are celebrating the victory of the sanitation heroes of India through this award. We were delighted when the benefits which are parted for the winners of NSA 2020 were passed on to all the finalists. Being part of that group has brought in a lot of strategic and logical benefits. We got exposed to a lot of international initiatives and got a chance to get in touch with high commissions abroad and also fewer Accelerators. This helped us to decide on which region to focus for our growth. We also got help with government connects to pitch our solutions to a lot of PSUs. The customers and the investors' outlook towards us also changed. We were able to refine our product and positioning and also did a partial pivot and were able to raise around 2 Cr last year.
